Do you think language unites or divides us?

In my opinion, language divides us. In the United States many immigrants speak different languages.  The United States is not totally unified because most immigrants are not fully participating in the culture and society because language barrier. Immigrants are part of the American population, but language divides us   and  a lot of  immigrants can't communicate within the society around them. Because of Language barrier, people can not get better information. Language diversity create crime and racial conflict so I don't see where language unites us. The English language barrier cannot  assist individuals to succeed in having a social life in the United States. Immigrants who do not speak English, they don't have a better opportunity to find employment and to speak out about their rights. They are not comfortable to participate in community events and activities; also it is hard for them to know each other neighbors. In addition, language barriers can create confusion among residents. Many Spanish immigrants usually cannot speak English, and they have a rough time with their children and their neighbors. Immigrants who don’t speak English just close their doors, and they don’t have a connection with society. Yes, I do think language divides us and creates isolation.

My immgration exprience

My name is Genet, I from Ethiopia. I have been lived in the United States four years. My immigration experience was good which is it wasn't that much hard to get visa. However, the interview was hard and they ask me a lot of question. I saw people wait for interview and some of them were unsuccessful which is failed interview.  The good thing was my process took four months that is very short period. At the time I graduated from college after I got my visa, I didn't stay long  to come to the United States. After I come her, I learned new experience. Minnesota is the first State I came but it was below my expectation.  I don't know because of the snow or something was missing. I wasn't excited about Minnesota however, The more I stay in Minnesota, I realized  it is good state for job opportunity and education. Also I was happy about the system of government service which is every where I go it is computerized and well organized. It save time and people can get access easily.  For instance, When I was process my Green card, it was amazing how the computerized system work effectively.
